James N. Nelson

James Norman Nelson, age 67, of Riverton, MN, passed away on Thursday, January 17, 2019, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, MN.

James was born on February 8, 1951, in Brainerd to Norman and Shirley (Sundbye) Nelson.

Jim graduated from the Washington High School, Brainerd Vo-Tech and enlisted in the Army in 1971. Jim was a vehicle maintenance mechanic. He served in Korea, Germany and Fort Hood, Texas. While serving in Korea, he met and married Sun Ae Kong and they had a daughter, Kristina Sun. Sun Ae passed away in 1990 in Killeen, Texas.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Barb; daughter, Kristina; stepdaughter, Sara. Sisters: Patty Nelson; Judy (Warner) Gouin; Teresa (Terry) Giles. Brother, Thomas (JoAnne) Nelson. Nieces: Nicole Gouin and Samantha Giles; Aunt Lois Jubie and extended family and friends.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Shirley Nelson; Grandparents: Ned and Grace Nelson and Walter and Ethel Sundbye.

Jim loved the outdoors, barbeques and bonfires was his ideal way of spending his time.

Services with military honors will be held at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, Camp Ripley, at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 3, 2019.

The Celebration of Jim's life will be at Barrows Town Hall, 3:30-6 p.m.
